Help us find out where all the Christmas beetles have gone! People report seeing fewer and fewer Christmas beetles in recent years. By contributing to this project you will be helping determine whether they are declining, and if so, what might be causing that decline. For more information and detailed instructions, check out:

The Christmas Beetle Count project was set up by Invertebrates Australia in conjunction with the University of Sydney and Dr Chris Reid from the Australian Museum.

Now in its third year, they have already gathered some really valuable data – but they still need more!

They have a Community Science Project set up on iNaturalist to gather observations of Christmas Beetles. The project aims to:

  1. Understand the current distribution of Christmas Beetles through observations

  2. Compare the current distribution to historic records to determine if there is a decline

  3. If there is evidence of decline, identify its potential causes
