You can help with Bogong Watch!

08th March 2026

Associate Professor Kate Umbers, from Western Sydney University, is keen to find out where all the bogong moths go when they leave the Australian Alps.  Dr Umber and her team have tagged 10,000 moths and are hoping that at least some get sighted and reported. This will help them find out where the moths go and help them understand their behaviour better. In 2017, the population crashed by as much as 99.5 per cent and scientists are trying to work out why. If you see a tagged bogong moth, let them know! Researchers are encouraging everyone to head to the Bogong Watch website and to check for moths around lights, feeding on nectar at night in the garden or at the bus stop.
