Congratulations to our Small Grant Recipients!

The standard of small grants this year was of very high quality, and it was very hard to choose the winners from four of the seven proposals we received. Due to this difficulty, we had two proposals which each ranked equivalently on our marking scheme across the three judges.

Jessica Broadway (Griffith University) - Investigating the relationship between Wolbachia infection and wound healing in adult Drosophila

Eve Muller (University of Queensland) - Developing In Vitro Rearing Protocol for Australian Stingless Bees to Enable Juvenile Insecticide Sensitivity Assessment

The judging panel wanted to provide some feedback for those applicants who have submitted and been unsuccessful in the past, particularly those who resubmit and are unsuccessful a number of times. Those proposals which always rank the highest show a number of key features, as these need to align with the marking criteria. These features are:

• Applications which provide the most detail, including either a hypothesis or justification for why the research is important to QLD entomology
• Strongly justification for the use of the funds, including a detailed budget and timeline of activities
• Making sure all other criteria on the application form are addressed with as much detail as possible.
